Jaya moves heaven and SC to save Thamaraikkani

E-Mail this report to a friend

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam member of Parliament O S Manian Friday filed a caveat in the Supreme Court against the Tamil Nadu government's anticipated move in the apex court on the Madras high court orders, which released on interim bail his party legislator R Thamaraikkani.

Thamaraikkani was arrested for assaulting state Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugham inside the assembly.

The caveat urges the court not to pass any interim order on the special leave petition to be filed by the Tamil Nadu government without hearing him.

After three days in prison, Tamaraikkani was released Thursday from the Madras central jail.

Thamaraikkani alleged that Speaker P T R Palanivel Rajan had passed an ''arbitrary and partisan sentence at the behest of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and the allies of the DMK.''

He also denied that he had assaulted Arumugam.
