Haryana BJP seeks withdrawal of support to Bansi Lal

The Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party legislature group today authorised its central leadership to take a final decision on the withdrawal of support to the three-year-old Bansi Lal government.

A delegation of MLAs, led by state education minister and leader of the BJP in the assembly Ram Vilas Sharma, met party president Kushabhau Thakre and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the morning and conveyed to them their strong feelings for withdrawal of support to the Haryana Vikas Party.

After meeting Vajpayee, Sharma told reporters that the delegation would also call on Union Home Minister L K Advani later in the day to apprise him about the latest political situation in the state.

They, however, refused to divulge details of the talks with the two leaders. They also did not disclose whether any assurance was given to them.

Sharma said the members have pointed out to the leadership the 'dictatorial attitude' of Chief Minister Bansi Lal for the past three years and his dismissal of BJP demands.

Sharma said, ''The BJP is a well disciplined party and whatever decision the high command takes will be acceptable to the state unit''.

However, the party's central leadership appears to be in no hurry to take a decision on the withdrawal of support.

At present, the HVP-BJP combine have 44 MLAs besides the support of another eight independents in the 90-member house. The Indian National Lok Dal is the second largest party in the assembly with 23 members, while the Congress has 12 MLAs.

Sources said several state party leaders were in favour of having an alliance with the INLD of Om Prakash Chautala, who has rushed to the capital in view of recent political developments in the state
