TMC asked us to bail out BJP govt: Karunanidhi

E-Mail this report to a friend

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam president M Karunanidhi today made a stunning disclosure.

He said that it was the Tamil Maanila Congress which had prevailed upon his party to save the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre after the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham withdrew support to it.

Addressing the media in Madras, he said several TMC leaders had urged him to bail out the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

He said TMC general secretary Peter Alphonse told him at a function in Madras on April 10 that the ''BJP-led government minus AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha should be allowed to continue for at least six months. Ms Jayalalitha should fail in her mission and we should find ways for that."

However, after the DMK voted in support of the confidence motion moved by Prime Minister Vajpayee in the Lok Sabha, Alphonse had launched a blistering attack against the DMK. Despite this, the chief minister said he had never said that the TMC had acted in an opportunist manner.
