Tourists can continue to visit, says governmentThe Jammu and Kashmir government has advised all prospective tourists to proceed to the valley by road in view of the temporary closure of Srinagar airport. An official spokesman said, "All prospective tourists are advised to proceed to the valley through the Jammu-Srinagar national highway." He said the airport has been closed temporarily for civilian traffic and is likely to be reopened in a few days. But he said air and rail services to Jammu are functioning normally and adequate arrangements have been made to carry tourists to the valley. He said the highway is absolutely safe and prospective tourists need not be apprehensive. The Jammu-Srinagar highway is far from the Srinagar-Kargil highway, he clarified. He said about 3,000 tourists are arriving in Srinagar every day and the rush is likely to increase. UNI |
