Deshmukh makes minor portfolio changes

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has effected minor changes in the portfolios of his ministers.

According to an official release, Anandrao Deokate, who was earlier given the Cabinet portfolio of animal husbandry and fisheries will now hold only the fisheries portfolio while the animal husbandry will be held by Makhram Pawar.

Pawar will also hold the charge of mines.

Vasant Chavan and Jaywant Awale had jointly held the department of nomadic tribes and other backward class welfare. Now this portfolio will be handled only by Awale.

Changes have also been made in the portfolios of three ministers of state. Ports and cultural affairs departments have been swapped between Meenakshi Tai Patil and Sunil Tatkare. Patil, who earlier held the cultural affairs portfolio, will now handle ports while Tatkare will look after the cultural affairs. Mohan Patil will look after the salt land development department.
