AP brain fever death toll rises to 164

The death toll due to the brain fever epidemic in Andhra Pradesh has gone up to 164, with five more children succumbing to the disease on Friday.

As many as 25 fresh cases of Japanese encephalitis (brain fever) were reported on Friday, the health directorate stated in a media statement.

The total number of Japanese encephalitis cases reported so far this year has soared to 802.

The epidemic has spread to 14 out of 23 districts in the state.
