US will aid J&K talks: envoyTara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi India has informed US Ambassador Richard Celeste that it is finding it difficult to control the nationwide outrage following the massacre of over hundred people in Jammu and Kashmir. Celeste, who met various Indian leaders including Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi on Thursday, was told that it was with great difficulty that the government had restrained Indians who took to the streets in the capital and Gujarat to protest Pakistan's alleged sponsorship of crossborder terrorism. Celeste told Balayogi that US President Bill Clinton appreciated India's restraint in the face of Tuesday's killings. The envoy said the US would extend all assistance to India to find a solution to the Kashmir problem and facilitate talks with the Hizbul Mujahideen. "The US appreciates India's restraint and conduct despite the killings which has shocked not only Indians but the entire peace-loving international community," the ambassador pointed out. |
