Discontent brews again at FTII

E-Mail this report to a friend

Discontent over the alleged failure of a new course structure is once again brewing at the Poona-based Film and Television Institute of India.

FTII students have demanded that the institute revert to a three-year revised syllabus designed in 1996 and 10 of them are in New Delhi to present their case to the FTII governing council, which is meeting on Friday.

The students also propose to make a representation to Minister of State (independent charge) for Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley, the FTII Students Association said in Poona.

The syllabus, the students claimed, has been forced on them despite the revised one having been accepted in principle by the academic council.

The three-year comprehensive course has been replaced by seemingly independent but incomprehensive courses, each lasting a year, the association said, adding that the course structure was inadequate in providing requisite skills to students.
