Pranab Mukherjee discharged from hospital

E-Mail this report to a friend

Congress Working Committee member Pranab Mukherjee was on Tuesday discharged from a city nursing home following improvement in his condition.

Mukherjee, who drove to his south Calcutta residence after being discharged, is scheduled to leave for Delhi on Wednesday, party sources said.

The veteran leader, who is tipped for the post of state Congress president, was admitted to the nursing home after he fell ill while speaking at a function organised on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi's birthday on Sunday.

Mukherjee was to have left for Delhi on Sunday itself for a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president A B A Ghani Khan Choudhury, who is reportedly set to be replaced by Mukherjee by the party high command, and a few of his followers, including party chief whip in the state assembly Abdul Mannan are already camping in the capital to dissuade Sonia from taking any measure that might cause damage to the party, the sources said.
