BEST employee kills family, attempts suicide

A BEST employee murdered his wife and two children and later attempted to commit suicide at Nagpada in central Mumbai on Tuesday night after he discovered that he and his wife had contracted the fatal disease Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome.

According to police, the man, an engineer, gave poison to his 32-year-old wife, minor son and daughters and later strangulated them. He then drank the poison himself.

While his wife and children died immediately, the man survived and was undergoing treatment at the Nair Hospital, police said.

Fear of ostracism and impeding death had driven the man to take the extreme step, police added.
