Indian troops kill 10 Pak soldiers in PoonchAt least 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed and several wounded when Indian troops repulsed an attack on its forward post in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, a defence spokesman said in Srinagar. Pakistan, however, claimed that the clash took place when Indian soldiers crossed the LoC and attacked its positions. The defence spokesman said the Indian troops opened fired on 30-40 Pakistani soldiers, who had sneaked into the Indian territory around 0400 hours. Pakistan suffered at least 10 casualties, while several of its soldiers were wounded. A military statement released in Islamabad said Indians troops attacked a Pakistani post around 2230 GMT Wednesday in the Rawalkot sector of the disputed Himalayan territory, but withdrew after taking "heavy casualties." Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in the clash and another two are missing, the statement said. Separatist violence in J&K has escalated since a cease-fire by Hizbul Mujahideen was withdrawn on August 8. Late last month India accused Pakistani troops of intruding into Indian Kashmir, killing one porter and abducting six people including two soldiers. UNI & AFP |
