Child labourers freed from UP factory

Police raided a carpet factory and released nine child labourers under Buxa police station area in Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Two persons, including the factory's owner, were arrested, police said on Saturday.

Acting on a complaint by Jaiprakash Singh, district president of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan Samiti, the naib tehsildar (Sadar) N K Maurya and Buxa police station in-charge S N Yadav jointly raided the factory on Friday and took the children, who were working there as bonded labour, into their custody.

The kids, hailing from Bihar, are being sent back to their homes under police protection.
