Postal strike enters third day: PTI

The employees' federations which have called for the strike -- National Federation of Postal Employees, Federation of National Postal Organisations and Bharatiya Postal Employees Federation -- claimed that the strike was near total on the third day.

"We are continuing the strike till our major demands affecting more than six lakh employees are met. These demands include revision of pay-scales of clerical, postmen and Group D employees and those related to extra departmental employees," G K Padnabhan, secretary general, Federation of National Postal Organisations, told PTI.

The postal employees are also to take out a march to Parliament on Thursday, to be followed by a meeting of the Joint Council Action Committee to review the situation, Padnabhan said, adding that the strike was nearly cent per cent all over the country.

Wednesday's meeting with Union Communications Minister Ram Vilas Paswan was not fruitful as major demands of the employees remained pending, Padmanabhan said.

A few demands which were accepted by the minister, he said, would benefit only a few thousand employees and hence a decision on withdrawing the strike could not be taken on that basis.
