All-party meet fails to end impasse: PTI

A meeting of leaders of political parties convened by Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi failed to resolve the impasse in Parliament which had remained paralysed for the seventh consecutive day in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Though the parties appear to be veering round to accepting a discussion in the Lok Sabha under Rule 184, they were undecided on the wording of the motion, Lok Sabha sources said.

The leaders felt that a common meeting ground to resolve the impasse in the Lok Sabha had to be found as it was felt that a "wrong message was being sent due to the deadlock in the House".

Balayogi said it was imperative to find a solution as business had to be completed.

Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan, Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Shivraj Patil and Jaipal Reddy (Congress), S Venugopal (TDP), Somnath Chatterjee (CPI-M) and Mulayam Singh Yadav (Samajwadi Party).
