The return of Shakti

The credit for the second meeting between the East and the West can be attributed to those stalwarts of music -- John McLaughlin (guitar), Zakir Hussain (tabla), L Shankar (violin) and Vikku Vinayakram (ghatam). The first one, of course, was Ustad Alla Rakha and Pandit Ravi Shankar's rendezvous with the West at the famed Woodstock festival.

To call the Shakti collaboration a band is somewhat inappropriate. Which is why one struggles to define their new avatar -- Remember Shakti!!

Two of Shakti's members -- L Shankar and Vikku Vinayakram -- have parted ways with the group; Remember Shakti honours them by bringing in two young and extremely talented musicians -- V Selvaganesh (Vikku Vinayakram's son) and U Shrinivas (electric mandolin)
