An uneasy calm prevails on Indo-Pak border along Rajasthan after the exchange of fire between Pakistani Rangers and Border Security Force on Saturday.

Tension prevails even after a flag meeting between officers from both the sides at Siwani post in Garsana area in Ganganagar on Sunday, reports reaching Jaipur indicated.

Pakistani Rangers opened unprovoked firing on Saturday morning near Sherpura border post, to which the BSF personnel retaliated, sources said in Jodhpur.

The exchange of fire continued intermittently for about seven hours, with both the sides firing around 500 rounds. However, no casualty was reported from Indian side.

A barrage of fire came from the Pakistani side when the BSF personnel were repairing an observation post inside Indian territory. Pakistan is also having an observation post inside its territory, about 150 yards from the international border, BSF sources said.

However, the sources are not sure if the Pakistani Army had any role in the firing incident. They claim that according to intelligence reports, Pakistani jawans are deployed in large numbers on the border in Rangers' uniform.

The Border Security Force had been observing unusual activities across the Sherpura post for some time but it is yet to be established if the incident was part of a larger desig, BSF sources said.
