PM to visit Meghalaya on January 21

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is expected to arrive in Shillong on January 21 on a two-day tour to Meghalaya.

The prime minister's maiden visit assumes significance as he is expected to hold talks with all chief ministers from the north-eastern region.

Official sources said Vajpayee would address a meet of the seven chief ministers on ''development strategies for the north-east''.

He would be accompanied by Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, Defence Minister George Fernandes and Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha besides secretaries from major developmental ministers.

The prime minister, after addressing a public meeting in Shillong on January 22, would to leave for New Delhi, the sources added.
