25 feared killed in AP boat mishap

Twenty-five people, including three women, were feared drowned when a boat capsized in Taliperu rivulet in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh Tuesday evening.

The mishap occurred near Cherla village when the boat was swept away by strong currents after the gates of Taliperu project were opened to let out water.

Official sources said about 40 people were in the country-made boat.

Prohibition and Excise Minister T Nageswara Rao, senior police and revenue officials have rushed to the spot.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep shock over the tragedy and has asked the district collector and superintendent of police to rush to the spot.
