Two more involved in church blasts arrested

E-Mail this report to a friend

Two persons, suspected to be involved in a bomb blast in a church in Goa last month were arrested today by the Karnataka Corps of Detectives at Betakurka village in Belgaum district.

Police said the accused belong to Deendar Anjuman, a little-known Muslim sect which has emerged as the main player behind a series of blasts in churches all over the country in the past couple of months.

The two accused arrested today had carried the explosives to Vasco-da-gama in Goa, where a blast occurred on June 8, Police Commissioner Dharampal Negi and COD Superintendent of Police S M Pujar told reporters.

They said one of the accused has been identified as Meerasab Chamansab Koujalagi, but did not disclose the identity of the other except saying that he was from Hyderabad.

With today's arrests, five persons have been arrested in Karnataka in connection with the explosions in churches in Hubli, Bangalore and Goa.

The mastermind behind the blasts - S M Ibrahim - was arrested in Bangalore a few days back. The two accused arrested today know Ibrahim.
