Army yet to act on Kargil lesson: MalikChief of Army Staff General V Malik said in Bhopal Saturday that although the Army had drawn its lessons from last year's Kargil war, it would take time to equip the forces better. At a press conference on the last day of his two-day visit to the city, he said that two types of lessons needed to be drawn from the war. Malik said there were strategic and operational lessons that needed to be drawn from the war and added that while the former were for those who frame the nation's policies, the latter were meant for the Army. He said that there were procedural hurdles and delays in better equipping the Army, but added that these had been identified and were being looked into. He said that he agreed with recommendations of the Kargil Review Committee, which had gone into all aspects of operations in the war last year. Malik said that the incursion into Kargil was the work of intruders from the Pakistani army alone, since no evidence of any militant having participated in that operation had been found. He said the Kargil operations should be remembered as the Army had driven away the Pakistani intruders and also for the feeling of unity displayed by the nation at that time. PTI
