Panskura polling peaceful, but candidates hurl charges

The Left Front has alleged that its candidate in Panskura was heckled and barred entry in Keshpur by Trinamool Congress workers on Monday. Polling is being held for the by-election to the Panskura parliamentary seat in West Bengal.

CPI-M Politburo member Biman Bose told rediff.com, "Trinamool supporters didn't allow our candidate to enter several villages under the Keshpur assembly segment. This smacks of the Trinamool's lack of faith in the democratic system." Bose also accused the Trinamool Congress of importing 'goons' to create disturbance.

Trinamool, on the other hand, has charged the Marxist cadre of driving out agents from three booths each at Anandapur, Keshpur and Langolkhola in Sabong assembly segment. The Congress too has alleged that agents were driven out from booths in Sabong.

Contrary to expectations, polling has remained largely peaceful.
