Violence broke out in the coastal town of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday night after a bomb was thrown into a mosque, injuring three persons.

According to the state police, the bomb exploded in the mosque opposite a bus station in the coastal town, about 350 km south-east of Hyderabad, around 21.45 hours IST.

Two persons were seriously injured in the incident. The police, however, said only one person was critically injured.

Protesting against the incident, hundreds of people came out on the streets and began throwing stones on AP State Road Transport Corporation buses. A bus and a truck were set on fire.

A policeman sustained minor injuries following stone-pelting on the Guntur town police station. A television crew member was also injured in the stone-pelting. Senior police officials have gone to the spot.
