E-Mail this report to a friend

Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy team captain Gyanendra Pandey was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of brutally beating up his wife.

Lucknow district police chief Braj Bhushan Bakshi said the cricketer was picked up from his home in Indira Nagar. A case has been registered against him at the Ghazipur police station, he added.

A complaint in this regard was filed by Pandey's father-in-law, a resident of Kanpur.

According to Bakshi, Pandey had been beating his wife Pratibha for several days. On getting information about these unforunate events, her father, his wife and their elder daughter came to Lucknow to rescue Pratibha on May 13. She was immediately taken to hospital where her condition is stated to be serious. A police spokesman said the role of Pandey's family members is also under scrutiny.
