Late in the night a call brought the bad news

Among the 14 Indians aboard the Singapore Airlines flight that crashed at the Taipei international airport in Taiwan on Tuesday night were four members of Colonel S L Reddy's family.

Despite Colonel Reddy's desperate attempts to contact officials at Taipei and Singapore and inquiries at the Hyderabad airport, he still has no information about his daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren.

Colonel Reddy told rediff.com the four were on their way back to Los Angeles after spending their vacation in Hyderabad.

His son-in-law Kommera Srinivas (36) has been a resident of the US for 18 years now.

"Srinivas, a mechanical engineer by training, has been working as a senior director with Universal Electronics, US. Kommera Sangeeta (32 years), my daughter, is a dental surgeon. They have two children -- Kommera Sneha (5) and Kommera Sahil (1)," Colonel Reddy, a former secretary of Hyderabad Race Club, said.

He saw his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren off at the Hyderabad airport Tuesday morning. Late in the night he received a call from Srinivas' parents informing about him about the mishap.

He hasn't slept since then.
