Mamata happy about
petro products price rollback

Trinamul Congress supremo and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has welcomed the government's decision to reduce prices of kerosene and Liquified Petroleum Gas.

Talking to mediapersons, she said the price of Public Distribution System kerosene was reduced by nearly 40 per cent and that of LPG by 26.61 per cent.

To a query, Banerjee said, ''Our's is a very small party. Whatever is possible for us, we have done.''

She hoped that as and when the prices of crude declined in the international market, the government would definitely reduce prices.

Even after reduction consumers in West Bengal would be paying much more than those in Delhi for LPG cylinders. Sales tax in West Bengal is the highest in the country. A consumer in West Bengal will be Rs 245.65 per cylinder while their Delhi counterparts will be paying Rs 222.45.

The minister said she would be requesting the state government to reduce sales tax on LPG.

Banerjee said she was not present when the Union Cabinet took the decision on denationalisation of banks.
