Azhar appears before BCCI's disciplinary committee

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Former Indian cricket captain Mohamed Azharuddin on Tuesday appeared before the Board of Control for Cricket in India's disciplinary committee meeting in New Delhi.

Azharuddin had actually been summoned to New Delhi by the Enforcement Directorate to explain his position regarding his alleged foreign exchange violations, but BCCI president A C Muthiah said the board had requested the ED to postpone Azhar's questioning till the afternoon to enable him to appear before the disciplinary committee.

With the ED acceding to the request, Azharuddin too had confirmed that he will appear before the panel in the morning.

Other players who have turned up at the meeting are Manoj Prabhakar, Nayan Mongia, Ajay Jadeja, Ajay Sharma and physio Ali Irani.

A large police contingent has been placed outside Hotel Taj Mansingh where the committee is in session.
