Congress retains Shahuwadi seat

Congress has retained the Shahuwadi assembly seat in Maharashtra defeating independent candidate by a margin of 4,121 votes.

The polls were necessitated following sitting Congress legislator Sanjaysingh Gaikwad's demise.

Congress fielded his widow Sanjivanidevi Gaikwad against former legislator and independent candidate Babasaheb Patil.

While Sanjivanidevi got 55,209 votes Patil received 51,088 votes.

Ramesh Latke of the Shiv Sena received 11,746 votes while another independent candidate Sanjwani Ananda Gaikwad got 1,864 votes.
