47 arrested in curfew-bound Mau

Police have arrested 47 people in curfew-bound Mau town in Uttar Pradesh for their suspected involvement in a blast in a trolley carrying Durga idols and the subsequent violence on Sunday last, which led to the death of one person and injury to four others.

Curfew continued for the third day in the town where the situation has been described as 'peaceful' and 'fully under control'.

An official spokesman said no untoward incident had been reported during the day. Police were maintaining a tight vigil.
