Sakhi's skinning: Zoo staff's
involvement suspected

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The one-man panel probing the killing and skinning of one-year-old tigress Sakhi at the Hyderabad Zoo Park on October 4 suspects the involvement of the Zoo staff in the incident.

In an informal chat with newsmen here on Thursday, Principal Secretary (rural development) Dr A V S Reddy, who is conducting the inquiry, hinted at an insider's involvement. "There were one or two employees or ex-employees involved," he said.

Dr Reddy said the intruders knew that the cages inside the tiger enclave in the park had neither bolts nor locks.

Dr Reddy said he would submit his interim report on Friday. The government gave him three days' time on Monday while announcing the terms of reference for the enquiry.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad city police have not yet made any arrests, even as the reward for providing clues in the case has been raised to Rs 3.5 lakh.
