Gupta offers to step down: PTI

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta said on Tuesday that he was mentally prepared to step down "if the high command desired so".

"I am a disciplined soldier of the party and if the high command desires to replace me with a better leader, I will have no objection," Gupta told reporters in Lucknow.

There is, however, no indication to me from the high command nor has anyone spoken to me in this regard, he said, adding, ''At present, it is more in the media.''

On whether a faction in the party was pressing for his replacement, the chief minister said, "I see no pressure as such."

"At least I do not belong to any faction and this is my strength," he remarked.

On whether the party was contemplating changes in view of the coming local body elections, the chief minister said, "If any change has to be made, it is keeping in mind the forthcoming assembly elections in the state."
