26 killed in UP accident

E-Mail this report to a friend

At least 26 people were killed and a number of others injured when a portion of the old loco-shed building at the Tundla railway station in Ferozabad district collapsed on Saturday morning.

Inspector General of Police A K Mitra told UNI that renovation work on this old building was on when a major portion of it suddenly caved in around 0930 hours.

A report from Allahabad said the chief controller, Allahabad division of the Northern Railway, told UNI that the tragedy occured when some labourers were engaged in bulldozing the old steam loco shed at the Tundla railway station for laying a new rail line.

''At that time, many people from outside had also gathered there'', he said, adding that the old steam engine loco shed suddenly collapsed burying many people. Most of the dead were construction workers. Some onlookers were buried under the debris.
