Five ISI agents held in Lucknow

In a major crackdown against activities of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence in Uttar Pradesh, the police's special task force Wednesday arrested five alleged ISI activists in Lucknow.

They included two former army personnel and two Nepalis.

STF superintendent of police Arun Kumar said that the activists were caught with sensitive defence documents.

The former armymen were identified as dismissed Major Taj Mohammad Sheikh and retired subedar S R Rai.

The Nepalis from Viratnagar are a businessman and a former ward commissioner, the latter also being a member of a political outfit.

The fifth, alleged to be a middleman, was also arrested.

Kumar said the arrested confessed that they were taken to the Pakistan embassy in Kathmandu where an official asked them to deliver the documents in exchange for money.

The activists said they had to hand over the documents to an intermediary, who took them to Kathmandu.
