E-Mail this report to a friend

Police have arrested a youth who allegedly planted a bomb in the Sabarmati Express on August 14 killing ten people and injuring several others.

Aqeel Mohammad was arrested Friday night from Ram Bagh on the outskirts of Agra while he was on his way to Aligarh, SSP S K Singh said while producing the accused before reporters.

Singh said Aqeel had confessed that he was asked by a certain Gulzar to place the bomb in the train at Faizabad station.

Aqeel told reporters he had come in contact with Gulzar at Aligarh during a religious meeting and was regularly brainwashed by him on the need to "act in support of Muslims who are being persecuted in Kashmir."

Aqueel said he placed the bomb in the last bogey of Sabarmati Express when it reached Faizabad station. Next day, he said, he learnt many people had been killed in the explosion.
