Landslip claims nine in Andhra Pradesh

Nine persons were killed and three were trapped in a landslide in an illegal quarry in Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

Making a statement in the state legislative assembly on Friday evening, Home Minister T Devender Goud said that the incident occurred in Kataram village. Out of the dozen persons at the site, nine died and three were trapped under the rubble.

The minister said that on receipt of information, the district collector, sub-collector, deputy superintendent of police and other officials went to the spot. He said operations were undertaken to clear the debris and rescue those trapped.
