E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is tentatively scheduled to undergo knee replacement surgery on October ten in Bombay, official sources said on Saturday.

Seventy-six-year-old Vajpayee was examined by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat on September 11 in New York and advised to undergo a knee replacement surgery in the left knee, which has troubled him for months.

Vajpayee is likely to be operated upon at Bombay's Breach Candy Hospital by Dr Ranawat.

According to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Director P K Dave, who is an orthopaedic specialist and has treated the prime minister for his osteoarthritis problem, the proposed surgery of the knee joint of Vajpayee is a 'routine' operation.
