RPI leader shot dead in Bombay

A Republican Party of India leader and social worker Raghoji Valji Makwana was gunned down outside his Mulund office in north-Bombay on Saturday morning.

Police said that the assailants sprayed bullets on Makwana (54) at around 0830 hours IST and fled. Makwana's wife Valiben is a corporator in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

His son found him in a pool of blood and took him to the Mulund general hospital, where he was pronounced dead on admission. He sustained bullet injuries on his head and died on the spot, sources said.

Tension was reported at Mulund, and security has been tightened. Police sources said that State Reserve Police Force personnel have been deployed.
