Rajan wants to return to India: PTI

Vijay Daman, suspected to be underworld don Chhota Rajan, has told the Thai police that he wants to return to India on Monday, media reports said on Sunday.

This comes as the Bombay police have sought his extradition.

"Daman only said that he wanted to return to India on Monday," The Bangkok Post quoted a senior police official as having said, adding that the police were looking for legal grounds to hold him back as "he carries a legal passport and has not committed any crime in Thailand."

As the Thai police continued to work out to establish whether Daman is actually Chhota Rajan, the daily said senior police official Maj Gen Chakthip Kunchornna had gone to question Daman alias Rajan "but the man refused to co-operate".

The Thai police have decided to take fingerprints of Daman and match them with those sent by the Indian police.

Indian jeweller, Rohit Verma alias Michael D'Souza, was killed and his wife and Daman were seriously injured when gunmen barged into the businessman's house last Friday and opened fire.

Both the wounded are being treated at an undisclosed place under tight police protection.

Thailand is awaiting a formal request from India on the extradition of Daman, the Post said. However, India and Thailand do not have an extradition treaty.
