Thai authorities will bar Rajan's departure: PTI

Underworld don Chhota Rajan will be charged with giving false information to Thai immigration authorities and barred from leaving the country immediately, the police said on Wednesday.

Rajan entered Thailand under the name of Vijay Daman in January as a tourist and requested for a business visa in May to obtain a licence to operate an import-export firm, 'Daman export-import.'

The immigration bureau later found out the company did not exist, nor was there any record to register it, the police said.

Immigration official Arun Taengnara was reported as saying that the gangster would be charged with declaring false information, which would keep him in the country. The offence carries a maximum of six months imprisonment or a fine.

The move comes as Thai and Indian police are rushing to file an extradition order against him.

Rajan had previously stated that he would fly out of Thailand on Thursday on his private plane.

He is currently being treated at an undisclosed place for gunshot injuries he suffered in an attempt on his life by Pakistani gunmen reportedly hired by a rival gang.

Media reports said Rajan will appear in court on Thursday to testify as a witness on the September 15 attack in which an Indian jeweller was killed and his wife wounded.
