Rajan to appear in court on Thursday

Our correspondent

Alleged gangster Chhota Rajan will appear at a southern Bangkok criminal court, amid tight security, on Thursday, The Bangkok Post reported.

The newspaper quoted Pol Maj-Gen Jakthip Kunchorn Na Ayuthaya, assistant city police chief, as saying that Rajan sought protection as he feared for his safety.

Rajan, who was attacked at an apartment in Sukhumvit Soi 26 recently, will accompany two witnesses.

Jakthip told the newspaper that after the hearing, Rajan will be charged with giving false information to the immigration bureau, an offence that will keep him in the country pending his extradition to India.

The newspaper claimed that the Indian police have not yet made an extradition request.

Indian police, it said, have implicated Rajan in a string of killings in Australia, South Africa and India. Rajan, it added, has asked the Thai police to send him back home after police wrapped up inquiries.
