Women in IT sector can work night shifts in Maharashtra

An announcement to this effect was made by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in Bombay on Saturday. With this decision, the time restriction of 0830 to 2030 hours for women has been lifted. A notification would soon be issued.

Deshmukh was speaking at a meeting of industrialists from the IT sector at the Sahyadri Guest House. He said that adequate care has been taken to ensure that women employees do not face trouble while working in the night hours. Proper transport facilities should be made available to them for returning home after night shifts.

The chief minister also said that the state government plans to implement a three pronged programme in the IT sector. Firstly, meetings of industrialists, bureaucrats and ministers would be organised once every week. The agenda would include discussions on investment proposals in the state and the speedy implementation of the same.

The chief minister said that such meetings would enable the government to chalk out its scheme for smooth implementation of investment proposals. He said municipal councils and corporations should also help in making available the necessary infrastructure to potential investors.

Representatives from Datamatics, Zenith and other organisations, including noted actor of yesteryears Shammi Kapoor, attended the meeting.
