Clinton meets Vajapyee

Former U S President Bill Clinton, who visited quake-ravaged areas of Gujarat, met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Saturday night.

Clinton, who arrived in New Delhi from Calcutta after visits to Bombay, Ahmedabad and Bhuj, spoke about the expertise available with the US Federal Emergency Management Agency for handling such disasters which could be shared with India.

A dinner scheduled to be hosted by Vajpayee for Clinton was cancelled following the three-day state mourning as a mark of respect to former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, who died on Friday, official sources said.

Clinton, who is on the last lap of his week-long tour to the country, will visit Rampur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. On Monday, he will attend a dinner in the capital hosted by the America-India Foundation and return to the US in the early hours on Tuesday.
