The Bangladesh Rifles has vacated the Pyrdiwah Border Security Force observation post at the international border in Meghalaya, a preliminary report received at the BSF headquarters in the state capital Shillong said.
Asked about the outcome of the flag meeting between the BSF and the BDR at Dawki on Thursday, the sources said, "We were successful. That is why BDR has vacated the post."
They said the BDR had surrounded the outpost in the wee hours of Monday and opened fire. The BSF retaliated and the fighting continued for several hours. But there was no report of any casualty or injury.
The BDR also chased the civilians out of Pyrdiwah. The residents then fled to nearby villages and jungles, the sources said.
Meanwhile, four BSF personnel and four civilians injured in shelling by the BDR at Boroibari in Assam were admitted to the Tura Civil Hospital and Ampathi Public Health Centre in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, official sources said.
About 2,000 villagers from Jalgaon and Kakripara in Dhubri district of Assam have taken shelter in the West Garo Hills after the shelling, they said.
Relief is being provided to these people by the district administration.
