Arrest warrant issued against Rane

A Bombay court has issued an arrest warrant against Shiv Sena leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane for his alleged derogatory remarks against Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi.

The warrant, which is bailable, is returnable on July 26.

Azmi had filed a criminal suit against Rane last year for accusing him of having links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Rane had alleged that Azmi had met Dawood at his residence in Pakistan on his way back from Saudi Arabia, where he had gone on a pilgrimage.

The warrant was issued by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate N V Gosavi after Rane failed to appear in the court for hearing of the case on Friday.
