Following a representation from the Majlis-e-Ittehaadul Muslimeen, Hyderabad Police Commissioner P Ramulu on Wednesday ordered the removal of four objectionable scenes and some dialogues from the Telugu film Sampangi.
The commissioner ordered the cuts after watching the movie in the presence of senior police officials, journalists, film director Sana Yadi Reddy, film hero Deepak and Central Board of Film Certification officer K Syama Prasad.
MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi had represented to the commissioner on Tuesday that Sampangi, being screened at eight cinema theatres in the city, had certain scenes and dialogues which hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community.
Yadi Reddy said the cuts would shorten the film by 35 minutes.
The screening of Sampangi had been suspended in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh following protests from the Muslim organisations that it hurt the sentiments of their community and belittled the Quran.
The film revolves around a love affair between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl.
