Cong bags zilla parishad in Naidu's home district

The Congress on Thursday bagged the prestigious Chittoor zilla parishad (local self-government body), in the home district of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party leader N Chandrababu Naidu.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi won the Karimnagar zilla parishad in the Telangana region.

With this, the Congress tally of zilla parishads has gone up to eight and that of the TRS to two. The TDP has bagged the remaining 12 zilla parishads.

Congress nominee M Reddemma was declared elected as chairperson of the Chittoor zilla parishad by the district collector and election officer on Thursday. Congress candidate P Peddi Reddy was elected vice-chairman.

In Karimnagar, TRS candidate K Venkat Rajeshwar Rao was unanimously elected zilla parishad chairperson while TRS nominee M Sudhir Kumar was elected vice-chairman.
