Maharashtra govt forms special team to counter ISI activities

Our Correspondent in Bombay

The Maharashtra government on Monday decided to form a special team to counter the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence attacks in the state.

The team would directly deal with the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing.

"The team would take help from both the organisations from time to time to keep a check on the activities of ISI in the state," said the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Chhagan Bhujbal.

However, Bhujbal did not disclose who would lead the team, and how many people would comprise the team.

"We would form this core team out of the state intelligence bureau," said Bhujbal.

Commenting on the security measures for the Independence Day, Bhujbal said the state government is taking all precautions to avoid any trouble.

Bhujbal said two ISI activists have fled from Thane to Lucknow.

"According to our information now, they have left for Lucknow and we have alerted the Uttar Pradesh Police," added Bhujbal.
