LCP minister resigns and joins SP

Loktantrik Congress Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Energy Vikramajit Maurya has resigned from the state cabinet and joined the Samajwadi Party.

Maurya joined the SP in the presence of party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh in Lucknow on Thursday.

He said his resignation, submitted on Wednesday, had been accepted by Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri.

Meanwhile, Banwari Lal Kanchal, former Bharatiya Janata Party MLC and a prominent leader of the traders community, resigned from the party and joined the SP.

Two other BJP leaders - Kabool Singh and Ram Dulare Patel - who are also former ministers, have also broken ties with the party and joined the SP.

Welcoming them, Mulayam Singh said it would strengthen the party's resolve to beat the 'communal forces'.
