Samata member offered call girls: Tejpal

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The managing editor of tehelka.com, Tarun Tejpal on Thursday charged the former treasurer of Samata Party R K Jain of trying to lure the journalists of tehelka.com investigative team to have sex with call girls.

"We have released the story on Thursday afternoon and we are giving copies of the tapes to the media for further investigation by them. R K Jain was trying to lure our men to have sex with prostitutes. He was pimping openly," Tarun Tejpal alleged.

Tehelka.com journalist Anirudha Bahal, who was closely involved in Operation West End, said that they had spent the entire Wednesday night to dig out the tape, and they were happy to have exposed the ugly face of the Samata Party.

Shambhu Srivastava, official spokesperson of the Samata party told newsmen that the party has distanced itself from R K Jain and the party was in no way responsible for his misdeeds.

"Jain will have to fend for himself," Srivastava said.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami has ruled out any probe into the latest revelations in the tehelka.com case.

On Wednesday, The Indian Express in an expose had given gory details of how the investigative journalists of tehelka.com had used the services of call girls to lure the senior army officers to fall into their trap, now better known as Operation West End.

"I am not aware of any move by the home ministry to order probe into the latest tehelka episode. Why should the government get involved in such murky affairs. We can at best condemn it and say that the journalists should not have used the call girls to expose something. The Delhi police has not been asked to register any First Information Report for investigations," Swami told rediff.com.
