Delhi Police Commissioner Ajay Raj Sharma is looking into the latest revelations in the defence scam, including the use of call girls by investigative reporters of tehelka.com to trap top army officers, senior police officers said.
Notably, Minister of State for Home I D Swami had on Thursday said the government had no intention of ordering an independent probe into the new information available in the defence scam.
On his part, Sharma denied he had received any directive from the home ministry to conduct a probe into the use prostitutes by tehelka.com reporters.
However, junior officer insisted that he has begun an investigation.
Asked if the Delhi police had found any prima facie evidence to register a case against Tehelka journalists, one officer said the investigations were underway and he would not like to make a comment at this juncture.
"We are looking into every angle. The commissioner is personally monitoring the investigation. We are looking whether the immoral traffic act has been violated by the concerned journalists," the officer said.
He said after a preliminary inquiry, the commissioner would report his findings to Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.
