Miscreants damage Christian tombs,
remanded to judicial custody

Mild tension prevailed at Anakapally town in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam district after miscreants damaged five tombs of the Christian community, built near a Hindu cremation ground, police said on Wednesday.

Anakapally is about 50 kms from the port city of Visakhapatnam.

Following a land dispute, members of the Hindu Smashana Vatika Samrakshana Samithi (HSVSS) allegedly attacked the tombs on Monday saying that they had come up inside the cremation ground premises, police said.

Based on a complaint, the police arrested three persons on Tuesday, including HSVSS president S S N Raju.

The accused were produced before a local court on Wednesday, which remanded them to two week's judicial custody.

An additional police picket was set up at the disputed site and the situation was under control, police added.
